Cold on the subway? Shanghai Metro is offering warmer carriages

What’s cooler than being cool? Definitely the Shanghai Metro by some accounts it appears. The city government has announced that starting Sunday 8 August onwards, 11 lines (out of 16 in total) will raise the temperature of their first and last carriages two degrees Celsius higher than the rest of the train.

The list of trains getting an adjustment includes Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, Line 10, Line 11, Line 12, Line 13, Line 15, Line 16, Line 17 and Line 18. According to Shanghai Fabu, the other metro lines won’t be offering the same services any time soon due to technical reasons (sadly, we’re looking at you, Line 2).

While an ice cold blast of air from the trains might be welcome to many during these dog days of summer – and especially when the trains are overcrowded – the changes are being made with seniors, kids or anyone sensitive to cold temperatures in mind. So, you know where to queue for just the right amount of summer coolness.
